North and South Korean soldiers face off within the Korean Demilitarized Zone. The DMZ extends the full length of the de facto inter-Korean border and has been sown with an estimated one million land mines. Its 250km run is interrupted at only one point: the Joint Security Area, a setting of extraordinary tension, where negotiations may be held between the two countries. The short cement barrier running between the blue JSA buildings represents the Military Demarcation Line -- before it lies South Korea, beyond it North.
